A love of cooking became apparent when I was a child. I would spend hours preparing tea parties and fashioning food out of mud,leaves,berries or whatever else my imagination could dream up. I grew up on a small self-sustaining farm with orchards and a big garden. We grew our own vegetables and raised a variety of animals. These provided the basics for all our meals. My father was a professional baker and pastry chef at a local grocery store. He received his formal training while apprenticing at a bakery in Eastern Germany when he was a teenager.My mind takes me back to special days when the aroma of fresh baked bread filled the air and greeted us as we walked in the door after school. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Holidays,birthdays and special occasions at our home were days laden with mountains of German food.My childhood seemed idyllic.
